Commit Canvas
Draw pictures and words on your GitHub contribution graph.
- Paint, see the result. Your real contribution graph is shown in full color, with a preview of how it will look after your drawing.
- Text and templates. Stamp words and symbols, or start from Heart, HELLO, Wave or Stars.
- Safe by default. Busy days are skipped, every send is reviewed first, and the last send can be undone.
- Sign in in seconds. One-click GitHub sign-in; your login stays on your computer.
Features
- Your real graph
- Existing contributions are shown in full color; squares you add get a dot, and Preview result shows roughly how the graph will look afterwards.
- Skip busy days
- On by default: no commits are added on days that already have contributions, so the drawing stays clean.
- Painting
- Four shades and an eraser, each showing how many commits it adds. Undo and redo, move the drawing, bigger squares, keyboard drawing and a scroll mode for touch screens.
- Text and templates
- Stamp A–Z, 0–9 and common symbols, or start from Heart, HELLO, Wave or Stars.
- Any year
- Draw on the past year or any year you have been active in.
- Repository
- Pick a repository in the app, or create a dedicated commit-canvas-art repository with one click.
- Review and undo
- Check the account, repository, branch, number of commits and dates before sending. Undo last send puts the branch back as long as nothing else was pushed since.
- Designs and scripts
- Save and open designs as files, or export a Bash or PowerShell script to create the commits yourself.
- How it works
- Each painted day becomes empty commits dated at local noon, authored with your GitHub noreply address, pushed once as a fast-forward. Nothing is force-pushed unless you undo your last send.
- Privacy
- Your GitHub login stays on your computer and is only sent to GitHub. Sign out removes it.
- Please be fair
- Decorative commits are not work: draw for fun, in a repository you own, and don't present it as real activity.
Installing
- Windows
- Run the setup .exe (or the .msi). If SmartScreen appears, choose More info → Run anyway.
- macOS
- Open the .dmg and drag the app to Applications. If macOS reports it as damaged, run
xattr -cr "/Applications/Commit Canvas.app"once. - Linux
- Install the .deb or .rpm, or make the .AppImage executable and run it.
